Crestview Parent Swim

Team Info 2010:

Welcome to the Crestview swim team!!

The swim team parent is Ann Morken & she and Marcia Lynch are your NBSL Reps.  We are VERY excited to have Stu Arasim back as our swim team consultant and Sarah Nockengost as our Swim Team Coach.  Helping them out this year will be assistant coaches Hailey Arasim and Tommy McKee.

Frequently Asked questions:

How much does it cost to be on the swim team?

We charge $40 for each child on the swim team.

How long do Meets run?

A swimmer should be at the meet by 5 pm for a ˝ hour warm-up with the actual meet starting at 6 PM.

The meets usually end between 9 and 9:45 PM but may run longer if we swim against large teams.

What about my 6 Year old, he/she will be very tired by then?

The 6 and Under events are run earlier in the meet and are usually done by 8 PM.

How are the events set up?

The first events held are the 6 yr old free followed by the Medley relays for kids 10 & Under and up.  The individual events are next.  The order is always free, breast, back then fly.  At the very end of the meets the free relays are held for all age groups 8 & Under and up.

How many events will my child swim?

The North Brandywine Swim League states that each child can swim up to 2 individual and 2 relays in our division.  This number may go down if there are a lot of swimmers in your child’s age group.  Each child gets an opportunity to swim.  Your child will not always swim in the first heat but will get an official time each time they swim.

What kind of help can I provide as a parent?

We have many opportunities for volunteering. We always need people to time the events, write out ribbons, line up the kids for their races, provide food for and/or work at the snack bar.  If you are doing any of these jobs we make every effort to assure you are able to watch your child when it is time for them to swim.

There will be a signup sheet on the bulletin board at the pool for people to help at the meet and for snack bar items.  Please sign up to help at every meet you can.  Parent volunteers are vital to a well run meet.

We have a lot of young swimmers and always need herders.  This is a great time to meet some of the young swimmers in your child’s age group.

When are practices:

During the school year there is practice in the afternoon.  Afternoon Practices for ages 7 and older will start in May.  High School and Middle School Kids will swim from 3:30 – 4:30 PM and 6th grade and below from 4:30 – 5:30 PM. Morning Practices will start in June.

Children as young as 4 or 5 may swim on the team but we ask that the parent or caregiver stays at practice until the child feels comfortable on their own.

A Parent or other responsible adult should be at practice for all children 8 and under.

Coaches have the right to request your presence at practice.

Practices continue until after the A Championships in the end of July.

How many meets are there?

We usually have around 6 meets with 2 or 3 of them at our home pool.

Do we have a team mascot?

We are the Crestview Rays.

What if it rains during a meet?

If a meet is canceled or stopped in the middle due to Thunder or lightning the meet will be made up the next evening.  The meet will resume from the event that it finished the night before.

What are the Championships and how does my swimmer qualify?

There are Prelims and Championships.  There are qualifying times for the Championship meet.  If your swimmer does not qualify for the Championships they will swim in the Preliminary championships the weekend before.  This is a nice meet for the smaller kids and they get medals and ribbons.  There are Crescendo relays for the Preliminary Champs (mixed ages).  Those swimmers who qualify for Championships will swim in up to 2 individual events and up to 2 relays.  Medals and ribbons are given to place winners.

There are new rules for the 6 and under swimmers for prelims and championships.  Make sure you are aware of these changes if you have a 6 and under on the team (Ask the coaches or Ann and Marcia).

Where do I purchase swim apparel?

We are getting our suits from Blazin Inc. The phone # is 302-598-1409 or check out www.blazinswim.com.  No one is required to have the team suit; swimmers can swim in a blue or black suit to match our team suits.

Where do we get Crestview clothes?

Each year the swim team sells sweatshirts and other clothing items with Crestview swim team on them.  There will be information on that during the season and Blazin Inc sells some stuff.

What about the snack bar at swim meets:

We have a fully stocked snack bar at each of our home meets.  We earn money from this but need help from the parents.  We need parents to staff the snack bar during the meets.  We also need people to donate food goods to the snack bar.  For everything that is donated we do not have to buy things.

We would like each family to supply a 12 pack of soda or water for each of the home meets.  We would like this donation to be brought in the day before the meet or the morning of the meet so we can get it cold.  We also need baked goods, snacks, fruit, meatballs or any other items you would like to donate.

Look for the signup sheet at the pool bulletin board.

Meet days:

The coaches require that swimmers not be at the pool after 1 PM on meet days.  The swimmers should show up at the meets by 5 PM to assure warm-up time.  The meet will start at 6 PM and run until finished (usually around 9 PM or so).

Baby Pool and Shallow End:

This year we are closing the baby pool at the swim meet to swimmers AND siblings.  At other pools the baby pool is often not available.

The shallow end of the pool is completely closed. Kids are NOT allowed to play on the playground until they have finished all of their events.  We would like the swimmers to be in the pool area cheering teammates on.

If you have any questions or concerns please let us know!
